Silverlake sits on the east side of Pearland, with access toward FM 518 and Beltway 8. A lot of the housing stock is late 1990s and 2000s. That era shows up in wallpaper two ways: powder rooms and hall baths that still have the original vinyl, and family rooms with consistent knockdown or orange peel that someone now wants covered with a large-scale print.
The bath problem
Original vinyl was often hung on drywall that was never primed for paper, then lived through twenty years of showers. Some of it was painted when a border went out of style. Removal there is scoring, careful stripping, residue wash, and drywall repair — not a one-hour peel. New paper, if you want it, should be a moisture-suitable vinyl or non-woven with a fan that works. New paper in the main rooms
Dining rooms and primary bedrooms are straightforward once the wall is smooth and primed. Peel-and-stick on the original texture is the request we turn down most often in this neighborhood. The peaks of the texture are not a bonding surface.
